James M. (Jim) Wells

Mr. James M. (Jim) Wells, III serves as President of Georgia Industrial Minerals, Inc. Mr. Wells served as the Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust Banks, Inc., from January 1, 2007 to April 2011. Mr. Wells served as the President of SunTrust Banks from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2008 and served as its Chief Operating Officer from December 9, 2004 to December 31, 2006. From January 2000 to August 2000, Mr. Wells served as President and Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust’s Mid-Atlantic region. Mr. Wells served as President of Crestar Financial Corporation and its subsidiary Crestar Bank from October 1988 to January 2000. Mr. Wells served as Chief Operating Officer of Crestar Financial Corporation and Crestar Bank since February 1997. Previously, he served as an Executive Vice President of Crestar Financial Corporation and Crestar Bank. Mr. Wells began his career as at SunTrust predecessor United Virginia Bankshares in Richmond. Throughout his career, Mr. Wells served senior positions in commercial and corporate banking, retail banking, mortgage banking, corporate and treasury management services and trust and investments. He serves as Chairman of BITS Financial Services Roundtable. Mr. Wells served as the Executive Chairman of SunTrust Banks Inc. from 2009 to December 31, 2011 and as its Executive Director from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2011. He served as the Chairman of SunTrust Banks from April 29, 2008 to April 2011. He served as Vice Chairman of SunTrust Banks from August 2000 to December 9, 2004. He has been a Director of Operation HOPE Inc. since November 2010. He serves as a Director of Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He serves as a Director at Financial Services Roundtable. Mr. Wells served as a Director of VISA U.S.A. Inc. He served as a Trustee of Georgia Research Alliance, Inc. since November 2009. Mr. Wells served as a Director of Crestar Financial Corp. since 1988. He served as a Director of Crestar Bank. He is active in community not-for- profit and educational institution boards. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Mr. Wells also attended the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
