Donna Lowry
Journalist and Communication Expert
Donna Lowry is a highly accomplished journalist and communication expert who has won numerous awards for her work. She has a passion for storytelling and empowering others with communication and critical thinking skills.
She hosts several popular shows, including Lawmakers and Lawmakers: Beyond the Dome, on GPB-TV. She also moderates She Leads Georgia, a monthly women’s financial empowerment seminar series sponsored by the Securities Division of the Georgia Secretary of State’s office. She previously moderated the virtual monthly financial education show When I’m 65… for Detroit Public Television and Investor Protection Trust.
Her expertise also extends to providing consulting, freelance writing, and producing services for educational, media, professional, and business outlets through her firm, Donna Lowry Communications.
Donna spent nearly three decades at WXIA-TV, 11Alive News (NBC affiliate). She later served as chief communications officer for Fulton County Schools and director of communications for the Cobb County School District. Donna’s impressive credentials include a degree in Mass Communications/Administration and Management from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
She has won eight Regional Emmy Awards, three National Gabriel Awards, and several other awards from reputable organizations such as the National Association of Black Journalists, the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists, The Associated Press, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Georgia Association of Educators, and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators.
Donna is an active member of professional affiliations such as the Atlanta Press Club, National Association of Black Journalists, Atlanta Association of Black Journalists, and Georgia First Amendment Foundation.
She also serves on the Southeast Board of Governors of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and chairs the Student Production Awards. Donna has a long history of community service, serving on several boards, including the James M. Dixon Foundation, Sheltering Arms Early Learning and Family Centers, West End Boys and Girls Clubs, Black Women Film Network, and many others. She is a longtime Girl Scout Leader and Gold Award Coach. She is active in the Magnolia (GA) Links, Inc. and the Nu Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Donna is married to Army Major (Ret) Bennet W. Reid, Jr., and they have three daughters
