Dr. K.L. Allen is the Regional Vice President of the Northeast Region for Western Governors University (WGU), where he leads university operations across 12 states spanning the Eastern Seaboard from Maine to Virginia, including Washington, D.C. Previously, he served as the Chancellor at WGU Ohio, where his leadership led to a remarkable 60% enrollment growth.
Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Allen is highly regarded and deeply passionate about higher education. His transformative vision for the future of higher education is inspiring and hopeful. His enthusiasm for its impact is palpable in his compelling speeches and insightful op-eds. His vision for a better future is a dream and a passion grounded in education, community engagement, and empowering others through education. With two decades of experience in higher education, Dr. Allen has steadfastly advocated for accessible education. As Regional Vice President, he has played a role in advancing the university’s mission of changing lives for the better by creating pathways to opportunity.
Dr. Allen holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, an MBA in Global Management, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership. His doctoral research focused on employee engagement, socioeconomics, and leadership strategies. Additionally, he sits on several boards, is a veteran of the Army National Guard, and is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
